Industry News – Online spend to double by 2010
By
2010, one in five purchases that would have happened in a high
street shop will take place on the internet, helping online spend
to double by the end of the decade, according to PayPal.
In a study to coincide with the launch of its new guidance for
e-businesses, the global payment system predicts that online consumer
spend will reach £39bn by 2010.
The staggering increase, it says, will be driven by 24.9m new
shoppers by the end of the decade, a 71% in rise last year's total.
These shoppers will also account for 49% of the adult population.

Case Study: B&H Midland |
Established in 1971, B&H Midland have been
operating from their shop in Market Harborough providing
a wide range of services and products including bowls
and darts equipment, trophies, personalised goods and
more.
B&H had a functional website previously, but wanted
to make the important step of selling their products online.

"When we made the decision to investigate the possibilities
of an upgrade of our ‘information only’ website
to a ‘full online shopping facility’ it was
a step into the unknown for us. We had obviously seen websites
up and running on the net but didn’t really understand
what went on behind the scenes.
Once
we had spoken with Studio 2 Online we decided this was the
way forward and the decision to go ahead was taken. Once
the work got underway we quickly realised we had made a
good decision in working with Studio 2 Online as we were
guided every step of the way by a helpful team, who listened
to our comments whilst steering us in the right direction.
When
the site went ‘live’ we had great feedback from
our customers and I think everyone who contributed to the
project should be very pleased with the end result."
Stuart Hall, Managing Director

Industry News - Distance Selling Guidelines Tweaked
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Office
of Fair Trading (OFT) have issued a new set of guidelines on distance
selling, which includes sales of goods to consumers over the internet
and by phone.
The regulations are created to protect consumers from some
of the pitfalls particular to shopping from a distance. One
of the main differences is the introduction of a mandatory return
and refund right. Because goods have to be bought sight unseen,
unlike in a shop, consumer's have an automatic right to return
goods for any reason, and receive a full refund.
