Understanding SmarterStats Reporting Software...
All clients that host their websites on our servers (and some that don't!) have continuous online access to all their web statistics.
SmarterStats is a specialist software that converts all your website’s logs into readable reports and data which you can filter to suit your own needs - allowing you to gather detailed information on who is visiting your site, which pages they are visiting, how long they spend there, how they are finding your site and much more.
This software is a powerful tool and there is so much information available that it can be a little confusing the first few times you use it. Don’t be deterred however as the information you can gain from this will enable your web site to be a useful business tool.
The best way to get to grips with the information available is to use the custom reports already set up within the software in the Report Items and Standard Reports sections.
- The Welcome Page
When you first login (see screenshot below) the information you see is the number of visitors that have been to your site in the last 7 days. The figure for the number of unique visitors tells you how many different people have accessed your site. The number of visits is the number of different times any individual has accessed the site and therefore does not distinguish between a first time visit and a return visit. The number of views is the number of times a page on your site has been accessed by any visitor.
Some Reports That You May Find Useful...
- Search Engine Report
The Search Engine Report is found under the standard reports section and provides you with information on what keywords people used when serching on the search engines to find your site. Which websites or search engines people are coming from to get to your website and which is your most common entry page. - The Chief Executive Officer Report
This is a good general report touching on many areas including: most popular pages, most common paths through the site, total visits per month or day and the top referring sites that are sending visitors to your website.
